Panasonic RAC Solo – air conditioning without an outdoor unit

If you've always wanted air conditioning but didn't want a bulky outdoor unit fixed to the side of your home, the Panasonic RAC Solo could be exactly what you're after.

At Leonard's Electrics, we now supply and install the Panasonic RAC Solo – a modern wall-mounted air conditioning system that delivers both cooling and heating without an external condenser unit. Instead, the system only needs two discreet holes through an outside wall, which makes installation quick, clean and far less disruptive than a standard system.

How it works

The RAC Solo is a high-efficiency, hyper-compact unit with no outdoor unit at all. Rather than pumping refrigerant out to a condenser on your wall, it exchanges air with the outside through two holes in a perimeter wall – 162mm for most models, or 202mm for the largest, 3kW unit. These holes can be positioned low or high on the wall, whichever suits the room and the building best.

Because there's no outdoor unit and no refrigerant pipework to route, there's nothing large mounted outside and no lengthy pipe runs to plan around. Everything that matters is contained within the indoor unit itself, which also keeps the installation process much simpler.

Built for flexibility

The unit has a slim, full metal body that's only 16.5cm deep, so it sits close to the wall without taking up much space in the room. Both the indoor unit and the external holes can go low or high on the wall, giving plenty of flexibility over where the system ends up. The external grille is self-closing too, and only opens while the unit is actually running.

Smart technology, lower running costs

The RAC Solo uses DC inverter technology, which controls the speed of the unit's motor and fine-tunes the heating and cooling output rather than switching on and off at full power. This means it can reach and hold your chosen temperature more efficiently, run more quietly, and cost less to run over time. It also puts less strain on the components, which helps the unit last longer. Depending on the model, you can choose a system with both heating and cooling, or cooling only.

Quick, hassle-free installation

For installations on an external wall, we simply:

• Mount the indoor unit
• Core drill two holes through the external wall
• Fit the external grilles
• Connect the electrical supply
• Commission and test the system

With no outdoor condenser and no refrigerant pipework to install, disruption to your home is kept to a minimum, and most installations can be completed in a single visit.
